This anatomical illustration depicts two key neurosurgical triangles: the Kawase triangle (green) and the Glascock triangle (pink). The image on the left shows a left oblique superolateral perspective of the skull base with a window cut into the temporal bone. An inset magnifies the view of the middle cranial fossa following the removal of petrous bone segments within the Kawase and Glascock triangles. This view was selected to emphasize the spatial relationship between the vertebrobasilar junction, cranial nerve VI, and the anterior inferior cerebellar artery, as seen through the Kawase triangle corridor. Surrounding anatomical landmarks help define the precise boundaries of these triangles. The dura mater is omitted to mimic surgical retraction of the superior petrosal sinus and temporal lobe during a temporal craniotomy. The volume of venous sinuses has been illustrated without the dura and cut away where it would obscure the view of the Kawase triangle.
